The Million Bee Project

Blackwell & Co. Dingley Dell - One million Bees

In partnership with Dingley Dell Pork we have launched our own project to feed and nurture one million bees each year. We’ve called this The Million Bee Project. As part of our commitment to farming in harmony with nature we aim to feed, support and enhance the number of bumblebees across the farm. We’ve already achieved a great population of bees, with now over 12 bees per square metre.

  • Our Planting Aims

Overall we want to protect and  improve our bumblebee population. To this end, each year we aim to plant 338,000 square metres of nectar mix, this is the size of around 83 football pitches. These seeds help to increase and improve the number and variety of flowers and meadow grasses that bees thrive on.

We hope that with more grass and wildflowers this will improve the diversity of bumblebees and other wildlife on our farm.

  • It's our duty

At Blackwell & Co. we hope that we are helping to create a healthier, happier and more prosperous environment for our animals.

“I so appreciate this important initiative: providing food for a million bees is an incredible aim. I’ve visited Dingley Dell and applaud Mark & Paul Hayward and Martin Blackwell for their enthusiasm and commitment to animal welfare and the environment.”
